Peoria Teen's Attempted Murder Trial Set for April

A Peoria teenager, indicted as an adult in connection with a double shooting last October on the city's south side, will be tried in late April. A judge Thursday set that date after a fitness review for 16 year old Robert Sanders. According to a court order, Sander's fitness is no longer an issue based on the findings and conclusions contained in a psychiatric report. Sanders is facing attempted murder and aggravated battery charges for the shooting at West Grinnell and South Folkers. Police believe the shooting may be gang related. A 14 year old was shot in the chest while a second teen was shot in the back, allegedly by a second gunman. Sanders, whose being held on one and a half million dollars bond, will be back in court April 17th.
