A Peoria man, who was found guilty of the city's 12th homicide of last year, was sentenced Friday to 60 years in prison and must serve the entire sentence, according to court records. A jury found 25 year old Cortez Williams guilty of murder but not guilty of aggravated battery. He was on trial for the September shooting death of Melvin Sanders, Junior and the wounding of Kennan Hardy, Junior. That shooting occurred in the 1600 block of South Stanley. Williams contends he acted in self defense.
