EAST PEORIA – A central Illinois businessman is living out a dream this weekend. Joe Waugh, Sr., the founder of Waugh Foods, Inc. in East Peoria is throwing out the first pitch at the Cubs game on Saturday.

Waugh is getting the opportunity through a longtime friend who he mentored many years ago. That friend is giving him the chance to throw the ball as a 90th birthday gift.

But that’s not all. Waugh even got his very own customized Cubs jersey. The 90-year-old said he’s been busy getting back into baseball shape. He said, “I am so excited! I mean, I hope I get the ball somewhere near home plate, but my brother told me the Cubs never get the ball across home plate anyways.”

Waugh will have a nice sized fan section up there in Chicago. Ironically, 90 of his employees, friends and family members will be attending the game to cheer him on.
