PONTIAC - A Pontiac hospital is showing off one of its newest pieces of technology.

OSF-St. James Medical Center recently completed a $3.4 million renovation and addition to its MRI wing.

It took just over a year to finish. The new machine is quieter, and doctors say the additional natural light sources in the room should ease claustrophobia concerns.

The move eliminates the need for a mobile MRI unit, and should meet a big need in Livingston County.

"If we have need for more, we'll look at expanding hours or whatever we have to do to accommodate those patient needs. We think we'll be a little more efficient with this in house, that we'll be able to put patients through a little quicker than what we've done previously,” said Tim Johnson, executive director of diagnostics.

Johnson says they will likely be able to serve about a dozen patients daily. OSF- St. James will start offering appointments on Monday.
