MANITO - Once a year, the streets of Manito are lined with popcorn.

The town held their annual Popcorn Festival today.

It celebrated with a parade, carnival and plenty of free popcorn.

The kernels were donated by local farmers.

The popcorn festival has been going on since 1972 and organizers say the buttery treat is a symbol of the town's culture.

“Popcorn is a big staple to this area and this year's theme is celebrating the American farmer. So it's a great way for a great weekend to come out and have fun and celebrate that,” said volunteer Val Springborn.

The festival runs throughout the weekend and the “Popcorn Princess” will be crowned on Sunday.
