PEORIA- For the first time the food and drug administration is placing regulations on e-cigarettes.

It would regulate electronic cigarettes as well as pipe tobacco and cigars.

The new regulations would ban e-cigarettes from vending machines

And prohibit the sale of them to anyone under 18.

This is the government's response to the growing popularity of the battery powered devices.

“It's an every growing popularity. We see a wide range of middle age to older people- mostly 30 to 80 that are buying our products,” says local store owner Laura Lovely.

“It would also require the labeling on them that these are dangerous. We think this is a good first step but we don't think it goes far enough,” says Congresswoman Cheri Bustos.

It could take more than a year for the new regulations to go into effect.
