FAIRBURY- Teachers at Prairie Central trade in their books for paint brushes.

More than 50 volunteers participated in the Illinois Education Association's "Outreach to Teach" Program.

Areas of the gym, hallways, and cafeteria were given a fresh coat of paint.

The IEA program helped purchase the paint and supplies, which saves the school district thousands of dollars.

Painters say it helps create a sense of pride for the schools.

"It helps show the students that we care and we want their school to look good and they, we want them to be excited to come to the school they're in," said Kelly Sullivan, a painter.

"To work with other people rather than just teaching in my classroom it's phenomenal. It's just uplifting," added Angie Kratochvil,President of Prairie Central Education Association.

Friday's act of kindness saved the school a month's worth of labor.
