The wild winter weather is no only a concern for area farmers, homeowners are at risk too.

Experts at Servepro say the powerful mix of rain, in addition to snow-melt, and frozen ground could have devastating effects.

The risk of a flooded basement or water damage greatly increases as precipitation totals add up.

Experts say to make sure your sump-pump and its lines are clear of debris and ice chunks.

With the ground frozen more than three feet deep, water will have few places to go.

“I think we're going to see an extreme amount of runoff because the ground is still frozen. Water is going to have a hard time finding places to go and the natural place for it to go is along foundation walls and into basements,” Jason Fletcher, Servpro Owner.

Simple fixes such as keeping window wells clear of debris and clearing down spurts can help drain water away from your home.
