SPRINGFIELD - Governor Pat Quinn is directing the  Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to keep PCB waste out of the Clinton Landfill The Governor’s order comes after response from the DeWitt County Board to the IEPA last week.

The Illinois EPA asked DeWitt County Board Chairman Sherrie Brown if she knew if Peoria Disposal Company planned on dumping chemical waste in the Clinton Landfill over the Mahomet Aquifer.

The DeWitt County Board tells the IEPA is did not authorize the disposal of PCBs in 2002.
Quinn’s office says the IEPa will issue a new permit to stop the dumping of PCBs in the landfill.
Illinois law allows a modified permit if it’s founda decision was made using false or misleading information when an original permit was approved.
The Mahomet Aquifer provides water to 80 communities and more than one million people.
A decision is still pending from the U.S. EPA.
