Much of the state got a break from the dry weather last week and the rains returned. However, crop production continued to make progress according to new data released Monday by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Corn in dough stage is 77 percent compared to the five year average of 62 percent. 82 percent of the corn was rated good to excellent, while only one percent of the crop is considered very poor. Meantime, 94 percent of the soybeans are blooming compared to 91 percent in the five year average. 79 percent of the beans were setting pods compared to 66 percent in the five year average. 78 percent of the soybeans are good to excellent while only one percent of the beans are considered very poor. Topsoil moisture was rated 2 percent very short, 76 percent adequate and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture was rated at 2 percent short, 72 percent adequate and 3 percent surplus.
