PEORIA - The family of a local man killed by gunfire is asking for the community's help in remembering him.

Melvin sanders passed away after being shot outside his cousin's home.

His aunt, Gladys Mitchell, is putting together a memorial fund for him and his family.

The money raised will be used for funeral costs and to provide for Sander's finance and two children.

“It's going to be less stressful,” said Mitchell.  “It's going to take the weight off my shoulders, definitely.  It'll make the funeral services run much smoother and better."

A memorial fund has been set up at the Members Choice Credit Union at 3919 N. University in Peoria for those wishing to contribute.
