PEORIA - Peoria’s oldest cemetery got a new memorial today.

Springdale Cemetery and Sons of the American Revolution honored Captain Zeally Moss today with an unveiling ceremony.

Moss fought in the Revolutionary War before he moved to Peoria with his family.

He is the only Revolutionary War veteran at Springdale, and now his story is displayed for visitors to read.

“Here it is, 238 years later, and we are honoring one of the patriots that helped establish the United States,” Tom Ashby, President of the Illinois Society Sons of the Revolution said.

Captain Moss was the father of Lydia Moss Bradley, the founder of Bradley University.
