Some East Peoria students were out of school today, after flooding damaged part of the Riverview Grade School.
Superintendent Michelle Lee, says heavy rain on Wednesday caused flooding inside the school’s gymnasium.
The room also serves as the school’s cafeteria.
Lee says they decided to cancel school for the safety of students, as crews worked to clean up the mess.
Parents also spent the day helping to dig up and reroute the downspouts around the building.
Lee is hopeful that students will be able to return to classes on Monday.
