Meantime, starting the week of Monday, August 18th, Main Street in Peoria will experience full lane closures during daytime hours for the installation of the lighted crosswalks. Weather permitting, construction is expected to last about one day for each location. No parking will be permitted along these streets. The following tentative schedules for the full lane closures are: Starting Monday, August 18th, at Main from Glenwood to Elmwood Avenue. Because of the anticipated weather conditions, these one day closures may not occur until mid to late week: Main Street from Bourland Avenue to University Street and Bradley Avenue at University from St. James to Moss Avenue. The installation of the lighted crosswalks will enhance the pedestrian safety, according to the city, and is part of the final phase of the University and Main Street reconstruction project. Also a reminder Route 116 will be reduced to one lane from just east of Farmington to just west of Hanna City starting Tuesday, August 19th and continuing until about Friday, August 29th. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers during this time. The lane reduction is necessary for patching work to be finished.
