PEORIA - And they’re off.
Running Central’s new store on Water Street is officially open today.
The store moved from Peoria Heights to its new location and has more than doubled in size.
The owners, Marie and Adam White, invested more than $2 million in this new store and have added a flex room for different programs, as well as showers.
The Whites say they are selling a whole experience, and they hope this will become infectious in the Warehouse District.
“We believe that what we’re able to create here in this retail environment will be a catalyst for other retailers to come and be able to pull off of all the destination traffic that we’re going to be able to help bring to downtown Peoria,” Adam said.
The building was first built in 1903, and the owners wanted to preserve that history.
The interior of the store has exposed brick throughout, and Adam said this is the largest brick and mortar running specialty store in the United States.
