Near MCLEAN -Traffic along a U.S. highway reopened Thursday afternoon after a morning accident.

A semi truck tipped over on Route 136, between Heyworth and McLean just after 8 a.m. Authorities say the trailer carrying merchandise was westbound when the driver over-corrected, skidded, and then hit a power pole.

The driver was trapped inside the vehicle when rescue crews arrived. They removed the windshield to free him.

"Our concern is what they're hauling. If it's a HAZMAT material, or not, we want to make sure there's no other dangers there. So, once we arrived, we just kind of do a scene size up and make sure there's no other dangers,” said McLean fire chief Eric Fulk.

Some homes east of the accident site temporarily lost power, as Ameren turned off the lines. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
