DUNLAP – The search for a new school superintendent has created a few concerns, but the school board president says she’s optimistic and that hiring a search firm is a step in the right direction.

After a closely divided vote, the school board is now moving forward with its plan to hire the same national search firm that was used to hire its last superintendent.

Dr. Jay Marino resigned from the position in March.

Many people are worried that hiring this firm will affect the budget.

There’s also opposition to using the same firm used to hire Dr. Marino.

Amy Fairfield Doering, board’s president, said she’s not worried about any of that.

"The firm that we hired to bring us Jay, brought us what we wanted. We needed to take some good strategic initiatives and he brought the process that he was studying and implemented it in Dunlap.”

Fairfield Doering says the board put in their input to create guidelines for choosing a search firm.

They hope to fill the position by next July.
