PEORIA - It's the first Friday for classes for many universities, which also means it's National College Colors Day.

People all over the country were encouraged to wear their school colors today.

District 150 decided to partake in the celebration allowing students to trade their school uniforms for some college gear.

It's all to encourage them to start planning for their future, and even the primary schools participated in the big day.

"If they want to be something and everybody in here says they want to be something, they have to go to college, and they have to know they can do that," first grade teacher April Todd said.

"I want to learn how to be a veterinarian and help animals that are sick and injured that need taking care of. It was very, very exciting for me to know that my mom went to college,” first grader Kristina Gilbert said.

Franklin Primary School had teachers and district officials share their own college experiences with students. It was in conjunction with their college-awareness program that kicked off today.
