PEORIA - The City of Peoria is still feeling the effects of this past winter.

Depressions in the ground- known as sinkholes- are popping up throughout the city.

They form when pipes underneath the ground separate due to a deep freeze.

This causes the ground to collapse, creating a sinkhole.

Sinkholes can form anywhere there is an underground pipe.

They're big enough to fall into, but sometimes difficult to see.

The City of Peoria says they are forming on roads, sidewalks and even in backyards, creating a hazard for everyone, but especially children.
