PEORIA - With another winter storm making its way to Central Illinois, many people are looking to social media for their forecast.

While Facebook and Instagram are great ways to spread information, sometimes the wrong information gets posted… and with the harsh winter we've been having, people are getting concerned when they see predictions of heavy snow.

Dr. Anthony Hermann, a psychologist at Bradley University told us about why it's so easy for false rumors about the weather to spread.

“The more extreme, the more it seems possible that bigger amounts are possible. And when you get a lot of people talking about this all at once, which the internet is really good at, that's how things go viral, right?”

You should only seek weather forecasts from trained meteorologists.
