PEORIA - A local group is looking to help promote the technology start up community in the Peoria area.

"Startup Peoria" formed in early 2013, but it has gained momentum recently with the increasing development in the Warehouse District.

They held a "start with the why" networking event Friday night.

"Startup Peoria" is a newly formed group to help provide entrepreneurs with the tools and resources to help launch a successful business and keep it in the Peoria area.

"They're looking at Central Ollinois to come back to our full employment levels in 2016-2017," said co-founder Amy Lambert. "We need to get there faster. one of the best ways to do that is to create jobs via the entrepreneurial system."

Peoria County presented a 40,000 dollar check to the group at Friday night's event.
