As of late Monday afternoon, road conditions in much of Central Illinois remained snow or ice covered and very slick, according to Illinois State Police. District 8 troopers handled 23 motorist assists and one crash with no injuries since the storm began. Troopers are recommending motorists travel only if necessary. Because of the federal holiday, traffic was lighter than normal Monday. If you must travel, police suggest you allow plenty of time, drive slowly, have plenty of gas, pack an emergency kit, have a charged cellphone, turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt. Motorists with property damage only crashes, in which the vehicles are drivable, are advised to exchange information and contact the District 8 State Police headquarters (383-2133) within 7 days to complete a crash report.
