The Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits, chaired by Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Rauner, held a news conference Tuesday urging the Illinois Supreme Court to act quickly on their request to place a term limits proposition on the November ballot. Nearly 600,000 Illinois residents signed the petition to put the amendment on the ballot but a judge recently ruled it unconstitutional. The case is at the appellate court level but Rauner believes the issue will have to be decided by the Illinois Supreme Court. The amendment limits state lawmakers to 8 years in the Illinois General Assembly, while also making other structural and procedural changes.
