The Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits , chaired by Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Rauner, filed an emergency petition Thursday to the Illinois Supreme Court. The high court will ultimately decide if the people have the right to vote on the term limits reform on the November ballot. An appellate court recently rejected the issue as unconstitutional. The amendment would limit state lawmakers to eight years in the Illinois General Assembly and make other structural and procedural changes to the legislature.
