LOGAN COUNTY – A Toulon mother is out on parole after being accused of abandoning her newborn in a ditch last year.

After being sentenced to three years behind bars, the Illinois Department of Corrections says good behavior helped her get out early.

Authorities released Kendra Meaker from prison Friday.

Last fall at age 19 she was accused of leaving her baby alone in Toulon.

At the time, she claimed the newborn been taken from her car while she ran into the post office, but later pled guilty to leaving the child near a rural Stark County road.

The DOC says Meaker received extra credit because her conviction was non-violent.

She plans to live with family.
