DALLAS -The mayors of Bloomington and Normal enjoyed a mayor's conference on the biggest stage Monday: Dallas' Cowboys Stadium.

Both Chris Koos and Tari Renner were invited to attend the annual meeting in Texas, to discuss the challenges of being in charge with other city leaders.

Koos says the twin cities are looking at early childcare and competitive pay as a result of the conference. Renner added the meeting looked at ways to take action as mayor, especially since federal dollars are drying up.

"We can't be like our state capitals that just bicker, or Washington that just bickers. Mayors got to make things happen. We can't be ideologues, not right wing ideologues, not left wing ideologues. We've got to make things happen at the end of the day,” said Renner.

Koos says several larger cities like Philadelphia and New York City taught some good lessons.

"Realizing how important that is in terms of youth, violence and gangs, getting kids ready for school, and excelling in school. That's from early childhood intervention,” said Koos.

Koos says 235 mayors attended the conference. The theme this year: Cities 3.0
