The 16th Annual Battle of the Badges kicked off Tuesday at Bloomington’s police and fire stations. Normal and the McLean County Sheriff's Office are also in the competition.
Department officials say it's especially important to have donors now, coming off a slow summer time. They say, the impact of one person donating, can potentially save three lives.
"It's just really important for us to get people out, and it seems like this actually helps out because people like to help out their local favorite organization, such as the Bloomington Police Department, the Bloomington Fire Department, the sheriff's office,” said Capt. Brad McCollum of the Bloomington Fire Department.
Donations are being accepted through Aug. 29. For more information, please click here.
At the McLean County Sheriff's Office alone, 89 people gave blood, and another 40 are expected to Friday as well. All total, the competition has brought in more than 237 pints of blood.
