The District 150 School Board chose Jon Bateman as its newest member.
The board is now notifying candidates Thursday of who got the vacant District 3 seat and who did not. The members held two sets of interviews Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Four people spoke with the board the first night and the other four the second night.
The board described Bateman as an active parent of a Richwoods High School Student. They say he serves on the Peoria Council for Continuous Improvement and his wife is also active in the local education community.
The other applicants were Laura Petelle, who lost the seat in the March election, Dan Adler, who Change 150 favored as a nominee, Lara Aaron, Jeff Lickiss, Melvin McCaw, Nancy Overcash, and Phil Romanus.
Bateman replaces Sue Wolstenholm, the woman who beat Petelle in the election, but resigned just minutes after she was sworn in earlier this month. The term is just for one year until the next school board election next year.
District 150 quoted Bateman saying the below:
“Throughout my life, I have lived in numerous places around the globe, seen a variety of different educational systems, and have found an appreciation for different approaches to education,” Bateman said. “In addition, I grew up and worked on a farm, served and recently retired after 29 years in the US Army, and am currently employed by Caterpillar, Inc. where I have worked for 24 years. These experiences have equipped me with a unique skill set that will allow me to contribute and serve on the District 150 School Board.”
