PEORIA - Peoria's vacant Washington School has a new owner.

The Peoria City Council approved the sale of the school to Montessori Children's House of Peoria, pending closing of the vacant school.

Montessori educates about 75 students currently and is located on North Street.

The former Washington School building has not been used since 2010, when it housed Peoria District 150's Adult Education Center.

The city bought the building off of District 150 earlier this year, under the condition that the city could sell it f or $150,000.
