PEORIA - Several items are on the agenda at the Peoria City Council meeting tonight.
One discussion is a possible new ordinance for businesses wanting to offer alcohol and video gambling.
Mayor Jim Ardis says a potential new business on University Street called “Dotty’s” prompted the discussion.
“Dotty’s” is a video-gambling café, also offering wine and beer.
Mayor Ardis says there’s a lot of interest in this kind of business operation and the city wants to get ahead of the curve.
"Really, we just don't want the community to be negatively impacted by a proliferation of these. So that's what the discussion will revolve around and we'll try to establish if we move this forward, we'll try to establish reasonable guidelines and reasonable distances between these kinds of operations and how many can be in what areas," said Peoria Mayor, Jim Ardis.
One guideline being considered having an establishment open for one year before it can apply for its video gambling license.
Mayor Ardis says nothing official will be voted on tonight.
