What causes tinnitus?

o  Because tinnitus is a symptom, it is our goal to identify the cause of the tinnitus so that proper treatment can be implemented.  Unfortunately, this can be difficult.  Causes of tinnitus can include:
o  Conditions in the
outer ear, including impacted ear wax in the ear canal.
o  Conditions in the
middle ear, such as infection, , Eustachian tube dysfunction which causes a plugged up feeling,
o  Conditions in the
inner ear, for example exposure to loud noises, age-related hearing loss, Meniere’s Disease, Drug toxicity,  hearing nerve tumor
o  Conditions from non-ear related disorders such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, multiple sclerosis, TMJ disorder and trauma to head and neck,
o  Medication related causes.
