Bears McManis Excelling in Multiple Roles

WMBD/WYZZ-TV - BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - When the Bears offered Sherrick McManis another contract this spring, the Peoria native didn't need a whole lot of time to make a decision.

"I'm really excited to be back home, being close to my family, as well," said the Richwoods High School grad. "And playing for a great organization."

McManis starts his fifth season in the league, third with the Bears. as a solid special teams player. He's trying to prove he belongs in the mix to be a regular in the defensive secondary on a team trying to win now.

"We have a sense of urgency when we come out here, not just the defense but the offense, too," said McManis. "It gives us a good opportunity to come out and compete."

McManis know he's not one of the bigger names with the Bears. But he sure felt special last year when the team rallied around him and central
Illinois in the days following the Washington tornado.

"It was great to see the organization come together and want to support a small city in Illinois. And show they have their back as well," said McManis, who came to Washington with a busload of players on Dec. 4 to help in the Washington clean-up efforts. "A few people knew me down there. So it was a great time to go out and show support to those families."
