WMBD/WYZZ-TV - DUNLAP, Ill. - The Dunlap Eagles have missed consecutive IHSA playoffs for the first time since 2000.

This year's team says it wants to get back to its winning tradition. But it
returns only one starter on defense and four on offense.

"I feel like we have the same expectation level because we're always trying to get back to the playoffs, which we haven't been to for the past two years," senior Wyll Teubel said. "So we're just looking for this senior class to get our underclassmen to the playoffs and hopefully they can continue the pattern."

Coach Brett Cazalet expects a bit of a learning curve, as many players will be learning on the job. The seniors say it's up to them to lead the Eagles back into contention.

"I think you just have to be kind of a leader and someone to show the new kids and people who have never played varsity football before the amount of effort and physicality you have to add when you play at the varsity level," senior Drew Leathers said.

The Eagles begin their season on the road against Geneseo Aug. 29.
