WMBD/WYZZ-TV - ELMWOOD, Ill - With nine starters back from an explosive offense, Elmwood-Brimfield thinks it has a playoff caliber team.
And the Trojans will get a playoff test in the season opener at Mercer County, a state champion in 2012 and a state semifinalist last year.
"You want to play those games. You want to play those types of teams so you can measure yourself up," said E-B head coach Todd Hollis. "By no means are we scared to go play them, we are excited to play them but there is all kinds of respect there."
Elmwood-Brimfield has made the playoffs in ten of the last eleven years and wants a big game to kickoff the season.
"Knowing that they have won state championships and stuff like that gives us more of a boost and gets us more ampted up to play that game, and gives us more motivation to play," said senior Andrew Jordan.
The season opener is Aug. 29.
