WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill - It was an uncharacteristic season for Metamora football in 2013.
"We were disappointed, there's no doubt about that," said Metamora head coach Pat Ryan. "We all take a share of that blame, that's part of the deal. When things go well you've got to spread the credit. when things don't go well, you have to spread the blame. That's what it means to be on a team."
The perennial Mid-Illini Conference power went 4-5 and missed the playoffs for the first time in 20 years. Metamora returns key players like quarterback Nick Holman and defensive back Brady Fairfield, who don't want a repeat in 2014.
"A lot of returning starters have come back with a vengeance," said Fairfield. W"e don't want ot to end like last year. So everybody's putting in the work to make sure it doesn't happen like that."
Metamora, picked by a handful of coaches to compete for the conference title this season, opens at home against Sterling on Aug. 29.
