WMBD/WYZZ-TV - TOULON, Ill - When it comes to school, Joe Charvat had some pretty good teachers On the football field at quarterback.

Charvat takes over as Stark County's starting quarterback, following in the footsteps of All-Staters Justin Koehler (2012) and Ryne Daum (2013).

"Watching them, following what they've been doing has been great," said Charvat. "They've been two outstanding quarterbacks. I just want to follow their footsteps."

The Rebels, a perennial small school power in central Illinois, are coached by a former quarterback who likes what Charvat brings to the table.

"He picked up a lot from Ryne last year and from Justin the year before," said coach Jade Noard. "He's had some good guys to watch play, now it's his turn."

Starrk County opens the season at home Aug. 29 against Knoxville.
