WMBD/WYZZ-TV - DOWNS, Ill. - Tri-Valley High School would love to be playing football in late November for a second straight season.
Last fall, the Vikings played in the school's first ever state championship game.
"I think it definitely taught us what it takes to get there, and that it takes everyone as a team," said senior Derek Wegman. It doesn't take just certain individuals, and no weak links. That's our motto this year."
Tri-Valley returns 22 players from the team that lost to Lena-Winslow, 28-21 in the Class 1A title game.
"It makes everyone hungry. I mean, of course, we want to get back to the same spot we were last year. But we just have to keep working hard," said senior Brett Schenkel.
Tri-Valley opens the season at home Aug. 29 against Fieldcrest.
