WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. - When Rocky Vonachen thought about putting the top high school baseball talent in central Illinois on display, he thought about trying something different.
When IVC head coach Jerry Rashid approached him about making his baseball showcase a three-day event pitting teams from Peoria against teams from Bloomington, he liked it. A lot.
"This is something different," said Vonachen, the president of the Peoria Chiefs. "It takes the best of the Peoria area against the best of the Bloomington-Normal area and makes a competition out of it. We're excited to showcase the talents in both areas. and see who comes out a winner."
The games will be played Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the home of the Peoria Chiefs, Dozer Park. With ticket proceeds going to Easter Seals in central Illinois.
"That's just the added benefit to it," said Vonachen. "We can help raise money for Easter Seals throughout all of this."
