WMBD/WYZZ-TV - PEORIA, Ill. -- No Cubs, no problem.

That's the sentiments of some Peoria Chiefs fans as they prepare for the likelihood the Chicago Cubs won't be the Chiefs' parent club in 2013.

"I'm a Cub's fan but I think I'm a baseball fan first," said season ticket holder Keith Makenzie. "So I support the local team. would I be upset of the Cubs left? Maybe. But it doesn't matter to me who is here. I'm going to come and watch no matter what."

The Chiefs closed their season with a win Monday at Kane County, the team that will likely succeed Peoria as the Midwest League affiliate of the Cubs. The Chicago Sun-Times reported in August the Cubs will move their low Class A team from Peoria to Geneva, in west suburban Chicago.

"I don't care who comes here as long as it's a winner," said Chiefs fan Eric Lang. "Even the Yankees or the Mets, two teams I dislike more than anyone else."

The Chiefs player development contract with the Cubs expired Tuesday. It was first signed in 2004.
