Cardinals Caravan Stops In Central IL

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - Paul DeJong felt right at home Friday night.

DeJong led a contingent of former Peoria Chiefs players back to their old stomping grounds as the Cardinals Caravan rolled into East Peoria. The former Illinois State star signed autographs, posed for pictures and answers questions from fans after his big rookie season in St. Louis.

"Showing how many great people I've met in this game, in my  journey. To reconnect with those people, I know it's special for them," DeJong said. "It's special fop me to see the old relationships that I've made here. and it's just great to be back."

Cardinals prospects Andrew Knizner and Oscar Mercado were also on the Caravan stop. Cardinals broadcaster Rick Horton emceed the event at the Embassy Suites Convention Center.

DeJong hit 25 HR, batted .285 and knocked in 65 runs last season as a rookie shortstop.
