Different Hayden, Same Success at Farmington

QB Hayden Bradt Has Farmers Unbeaten

FARMINGTON, Ill. - When Hayden Bradt made up his mind that he wanted to be Farmington's starting quarterback this season, he made up his mind that he couldn't be Dylan Hayden.

Hayden was the Farmer's all-state QB from last year.

"I didn't want to try and fill in as Dylan, but to be my own type of player," Bradt said. "Dylan threw
it all the time and I wanted to be a guy that could run it more."

It was a goal he shared with his head coach in the summer.

"He talked to me and said this is where I fit. I'm going to prove it to you," Farmington coach Toby Vallas said. "To be honest I'm not sure I believed him at first, I do now."

Maybe there were others that doubted him, too. Now there are very few doubters as Bradt has the Farmers state-ranked and undefeated after six games.

Bradt started his high school football career as a freshman quarterback then moved to running back. Last year on the junior varsity team, he played some linebacker.

This year he says that experience as a linebacker is helping him be a better varsity quarterback.

"I know how I would play if someone was running or passing against me," said Bradt. "I know what I'd do if I were in that situation. It's helped a lot."

His quarterback play is one reason the Farmers are steamrolling towards a third straight
playoff appearance. Farmington has a huge game at Elmwood-Brimfield (6-0) Friday night.

"It feels good but I try and keep myself grounded, not getting too high," said Bradt. "When I do that I feel like I make bigger mistakes."

Right now he's making very few mistakes in his first season as a varsity quarterback.
