DUNLAP, Ill. - Dunlap has its eyes on the prize again.
The Dunlap girls track and field teams heads to this week's state meet as the team to beat in Class 2A. The Eagles are the defending champs and have been ranked number one all season.
But they aren't taking anything for granted.
"We've talked to the freshmen, they understand this is not a joke," said senior Aanise Sanja. "This is serious, it's been serious all year. They are ready to show up too. We are excited."
Sanja will being trying to earn points in four events: long jump, triple jump, and in the sprint relays
Dunlap swept the four relay races on the way to winning state in 2017. Senior Savannah Sullivan will run on Dunlap's 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays.
"I'm nervous definitely. It's a big state meet. We have a lot of competition," Sullivan said. "A lot of teams are brigning the heat and so are we. Nerves are good. To an extent."
The Class 2A state prelims are Friday, the finals are Saturday at Eastern Illinois University.
