Dunlap Seeks State Title And Respect

Offensive Stars Frequently Overlooked

DUNLAP, Ill - Respect.

It's something undefeated Dunlap has been fighting for all season.

"A lot of teams did underestimate us, thought we weren't going to be as good," said junior quarterback Myles Burke. "But I feel like we proved everyone wrong."

Burke has been proving people wrong all season. He says it took him two games to settle into his role as the first strong quarterback.

All he's done is go 13-0 as the starter to quiet the critics.

"It's fun trying to prove people wrong," Burke admitted. "Every time you hit the field, you look at the other team and say, 'I'm going to prove you wrong. You thought I was bad.'"

Nobody at Dunlap thinks he's bad. Just overlooked.

"I think Myles has been as good a quarterback that there's been in the area this year. He does exactly what he's supposed to do," said head coach Brett Cazalet.

And then there's Luke Bennyhoff. He may not be getting the proper respect either.

Despite a season where he's rushed for over 2,000 yards and scored 36 touchdowns, he was left off the coaches All-State team last week.

"That shocked me," said Bennyhoff. "Nothing you can do about it. All you can do is move forward and know you're playing for something bigger than the All-State sheet. You're playing for a state championship."

Saturday, Dunlap will play Chicago Phillips for the Class 5A state championship. The Eagles will be trying to earn the respect of the entire state.

If they have already earned it.
