Five Central Illinois wrestlers earn state titles

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Five local wrestlers return to Central Illinois as state champions. Before thousands of fans at Champaign's State Farm Center, more than a dozen local athletes earn All-State recognition.

Washington senior and future Iowa Hawkeye Jacob Warner made it three state titles in three years in three different divisions, earning a 22-7 technical fall victory in the Class 2A 195-pound division. Warner finished his senior season undefeated. Fellow senior Dack Punke completed a dominant run to his second straight title. The Mizzou signee did not allow a single point against him in eight postseason matches.

Bloomington heavyweight John Ridgeway used a defensive pin to earn a state title in the Class 2A 285-pound division.

Pontiac's Jake Lanning also completed an undefeated season, winning the 170-pound 2A final to finish 47-0.

Havana/Midwest Central's Josh McKinney avenged a sectional loss to previously-unbeaten Drew Hoselton of Prairie Central to earn the 1A 160-pound state title.
