ISU's Steve Adams Awarded MVC 'Most Courageous Award'

Longtime PA announcer fights cancer

NORMAL, Ill. - Steve Adams has been a part of Illinois State athletics for four decades.

Sunday, the longtime Redbirds public address announcer was given the Missouri Valley Conference's "Most Courageouos Award." He was presented with the honor by league commissioner Doug Elgin at the ISU men's basketball exhibition game.

Adams, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this spring, has worked nearly 600 ISU basketball and football games over 40 years.

The Missouri Valley Conference presents the Most Courageous Award to a past or present student-athlete, coach or university administrator who demonstrates unusual courage in the face of personal illness, adversity or tragedy and whose behavior reflects honor on the institution or the Conference.

Individuals receiving the award might also have performed heroic feats or otherwise inspired others. The award shall be presented once each year when warranted and this year was presented to several other deserving recipients.
