WMBD/WYZZ-TV - BLOOMINGTON, Ill - The third time was the charm for Illinois Wesleyan.

"All of us seniors have been through it all the past three years," said IWU senior Sara Daley. "To definitely make it past this round... third time is the charm."

Wesleyan scored three runs in the seventh inning Sunday to beat lake Forest 3-2 and win the NCAA Softball Regional it was hosting. It helps make up for the heartbreaking losses the Titans suffered the last two years at regionals.

"Especially being a senior, not wanting to end your career, a whole lot of adrenaline, with my awesome teammates is a lot of fun," said senior Sara Rogers.

IWU advances to the super regionals this week. But that didn't seem like a likely destination in the latter stages of Sunday's regional title game.

"We weren't worried about a second game, just focused on the now, it's what true athletes do," IWU coach Kat McCreery said of a possible elimination game had lake forest won. "We've done it quite a few times this season. We don't worry about winnign streaks. We worry about one game at a time and I'm so happy we did."

The Titans will host Wisconsin-Whitewater in a three-game super regional Friday and Saturday.
