Mangieri Ready For Big Senior Season

Boot Camp: Dunlap

DUNLAP, Ill. - New year, same horse at Dunlap.

Charlie Mangieri, a tight end and defensive lineman, leads a group of returning starters for the Eagles. Coach Brett Cazalet calls Mangieri, who is a four-year varsity player, another coach on the field.

And the 6-4, 230-pound Mangieri agrees.

"We were doing offense yesterday and coach messed up an alignment. I said, 'Coach, I've got to be right here.' He said you're right. Little stuff like that helps," said Mangieri.

Mangieri has committed to Northwestern.  The Eagles, who have six returning starters on offense and six on defense, are looking to earn a playoff berth for the third straight year.

Quarterback Ryan Erickson thinks he'll be passing the ball quite a bit to Mangieri.

"He knows his stuff. Anybody can go up to him and ask him about any given spot on the field and he can tell him what to do," said Erickson. "And he's a play maker, give him the ball and he will go grab it and make the big plays."

Dunlap opens the season Aug. 25 at Galesburg.
