WMBDWYZZ-TV - METAMORA, lll. - When Metamora won only six games in the conference this baseball season, not many people forecasted the Redbirds would make it to state.

But Drew Beenders saw this coming. The senior outfielder had the word "state" stitched into his spikes.

"Day One, a lot of teams shoot small,"explained Beenders. "With the potential we had, that everyone knows we have, it was the number one goal to go to state. To be able to follow up on that and do it is amazing."

The Redbirds make their first appearance at state Friday when they play Lemont in the Class 3A state semifinals in Joliet.
