WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill. - A month ago, the Redbirds may have had other plans for June.
"I guess we got tired of playing how we were (playing) and we really stepped it up and played for everybody," said Metamora catcher Jake Guede. "Now we're playing for ourselves, for our teammates. And hopefully we can go even further than last year. That's the goal."
Monday night, Metamora will play Sycamore in a Class 3A baseball super-sectional for a trip to state.
"It's really exciting now," said pitcher Alex Lewis, who has won the regional and sectional clinchers for the Redbirds. "One win from state is something not every team gets to do every year."
Metamora is in the super-sectional for a second straight season.
"We're playing our best baseball of the year," said lead-off hitter Peyton Biernat. "We were struggling early on but we're putting it together now."
