WMBD/WYZZ-TV - METAMORA, Ill. - Metamora will be an underdog in the sectional title game Saturday and it's just how the Redbirds want it
"It's really great to make a run like that because I knew our team could like win that many games and we are a good team, we just struggled," said senior catcher Kara Hartnett. "So going in as the underdog is definitely like we have nothing to lose."
Metamora has won three straigt postseason games since entering regionals with a 9-23 record.
"It's nice being the underdog too and you know they have to come and get us tomorrow and we've got really nothing to (lose)," said coach Deric Linder. "We're just going to play and have fun."
East Peoria beat Metamora twice on the way to an undefeated Mid-Illini season. The Redbirds hope the third time is the charm in Saturday's 11 a.m. sectional championship.
"We have nothing to lose, we're just going to fight for it and win, because we are the underdog and I think that almost like helps us, you know," said senior outfielder Abby Barrow. It gives us a little advantage."
